ABOUT THE DISTILLERY

The Shizuoka distillery, established in 2017 by Gaia Flow, a notable importer of whisky brands like Blackladder, Swedish Mackmyra, and Asta Morris, made a significant move by acquiring the distilling equipment previously employed by the renowned Karuizawa distillery, which ceased operations in 2011. This acquisition generated excitement among whisky enthusiasts, who anticipate the revival of exceptional whisky production.

While the purchased equipment includes three Karuizawa stills, only one can be utilized due to the age of the other two. Nevertheless, all three stills will be exhibited at the new distillery as a tribute to Karuizawa’s legacy. Despite the inability to utilize all the acquired stills, the prospect of Shizuoka producing whisky akin to Karuizawa’s famed quality promises a delightful experience for whisky aficionados.

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Shizouka Cask, distilled in 2021.

PLEASE NOTE

Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer. Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer’s transaction.

Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e Japan excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
