With the 2021 Campbeltown Malts Festival canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Springbank distillery transformed the disappointment into an opportunity, hosting a Virtual Tasting Week to showcase its annual exclusives. Among them was this 8-year-old expression, limited to just 1,160 bottles. It spent 6 years maturing in a refill ex-bourbon cask followed by 2 years finishing in a fresh Pedro Ximénez sherry cask.

Embracing 200 years of heritage, The Macallan unveils TIME: SPACE Mastery, a tribute to its unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and innovation. Inspired by the legacy of past whisky masters and the diverse range of cask styles, the current creators selected each cask at its peak maturation, blending 14 casks including European and American oak. The sherry-seasoned European oak adds depth, dried fruits, and gentle spice, while the American oak provides balance with a rounded sweetness.

Bottled at 43.6% ABV, this exceptional whisky is presented in a unique circular decanter representing the circle of life, housed in a luxurious box featuring 200 spikes inspired by traditional origami techniques.

NOSE

Rich Medjool dates, sweet figs, and milk chocolate are accompanied by hints of honey and tropical fruits like mango and papaya, all wrapped in a layer of toasted oak.

PALATE

An intense sweetness unfolds, rich with sherry-seasoned dried fruits, orange marmalade, and honeycomb. As the flavors deepen, gentle spices of ginger and cinnamon emerge, adding warmth to the experience.

FINISH

Bursts of caramelized pineapple and creamy vanilla linger, perfectly balanced by subtle notes of dark chocolate and coffee.

Miyagikyo 10, 12 & 15 Year Old Set

Founded in 1969 as Nikka’s second distillery, Miyagikyo (formerly known as Sendai and Sakunami) was born to complement the bold, peaty character of Yoichi. Crafted from lightly peated and non-peated barley, Miyagikyo malts are distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam, resulting in a flavour profile of elegant fruitiness and delicate mouthfeel. It’s been years since Nikka discontinued its age-statement lineups due to stock shortages, making these age-stated expressions all the more rare today.

Miyagikyo 10
Very approachable Japanese malt with a light body, yet brimming with floral, fruity flavors with a slightly sour edge.

Miyagikyo 12
Light and floral on the nose, well-matured with a full body, and a complex, vinous finish.

Miyagikyo 15
The oldest in the range, it earned an impressive 92 points from renowned whisky critic Jim Murray. Compared to younger Miyagikyo malts, it offers a fuller, more mature profile with sherry sweetness and nutty notes.

Springbank 10 Year Old Palo Cortado Sherry Cask

The second release in the Springbank Sherry Wood Series, this 10-year-old whisky continues the exploration of different sherry cask styles. Distilled in 2013, it spent six years in bourbon barrels before finishing in Palo Cortado Sherry hogsheads for four years, lending its rich sherried goodness to Springbank’s character.

Founder Masataka Taketsuru chose Yoichi in Hokkaido for its climate, similar to Scotland’s, where he mastered the art of whisky-making. Carefully selected from malts distilled and matured at the Yoichi distillery, this single malt showcases a bold yet refined peatiness, with a subtle maritime influence.

Once part of the Yoichi core range, the 15-year-old was discontinued in 2015, along with all other age-statement releases, after Nikka was hit by stock shortages. Renowned whisky critic Jim Murray praised it as ‘an absolute must for anyone who considers themselves a whisky connoisseur.’

NOSE

Light fruity notes and vanilla.

PALATE

Immediately sweet with notes of subdued peat, vanilla, spice and a hint of nuttiness.

FINISH

A long finish with malt flavors and a hint of chocolate bitterness.

Limited to only 700 bottles, this edition comes in a sleek black bottle, making it a striking and collectible piece for whisky enthusiasts.
