Bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society under the playful title ‘Oysters Served the Old Fashioned Way’, this 21-year-old Islay single malt was a special release for the Chinese market in 2017 celebrating the Year of the Rooster. Distilled at Laphroaig, it matured for 21 years in a refill barrel (no. 29.207), yielding just 150 bottles. This exclusive release captures the rare and distinctive essence of Laphroaig’s 1990s era.
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) was founded in 1983 by a group of friends as a private members’ club. The concept was to source casks from distilleries across Scotland and bottle them exclusively for members. An iconic feature is the label code, where, rather than listing the distillery’s name, each distillery is assigned a number, with the following digits indicating the specific release.
