A limited release of Laphroaig distilled in 1989 and matured for 21 years in a refill ex-Oloroso butt (no. 29.234), this is one of only 368 bottles bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in 2017. This exclusive release captures the rare and distinctive essence of Laphroaig’s 1990s era, with a flavor profile deliciously described as ‘Smoked and salted toffee apples.’
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) was founded in 1983 by a group of friends as a private members’ club. The concept was to source casks from distilleries across Scotland and bottle them exclusively for members. An iconic feature is the label code, where, rather than listing the distillery’s name, each distillery is assigned a number, with the following digits indicating the specific release.
