This particular 18-year-old, crafted by chief blender Shinji Fukuyo, showcases Yamazaki’s mastery of Mizunara oak. It features whiskies aged up to 50 years, with the youngest at 18. The bottle is adorned with a mulberry Echizen paper label created using traditional Japanese methods, while the wooden box is crafted from recycled Suntory casks.
What truly sets this whisky apart is its Mizunara oak maturation. While Mizunara wood is costly and difficult to work with due to its porous nature and the risk of leakage, Suntory has perfected the art of crafting these casks over the years. With only 1,500 bottles released worldwide in 2017, this is one of the prized additions you wouldn’t want to miss.
